1,948 Personnel Deployed to Secure Labour Demonstration in Front of DPR Today
Nearly 1,948 police personnel have been deployed to secure the demonstration organised by the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Metal Workers’ Federation (DPP FSPMI) in front of the DPR/MPR building, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (16/4). “1,948 security personnel at the DPR/MPR RI,” said the Head of Public Relations Section of the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort, First Inspector Erlyn Sumantri, on behalf of the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort Chief, Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung, to reporters. Reynold explained that the thousands of personnel would be distributed at several strategic points, particularly in the DPR/MPR building area, to anticipate potential disruptions to public security and order (kamtibmas). Reynold stated that traffic engineering around the demonstration site would be situational, meaning it would adjust to the number of people present in the field. Meanwhile, from a post on the X account @TMCPoldaMetro, it is estimated that there will be traffic congestion around the DPR/MPR building due to the demonstration. “For motorists, they are urged to always follow the instructions and directions of officers in the field for our mutual safety and smoothness. Prioritise safety in driving and comply with the existing rules,” as stated in the post. In a post on the Instagram account @fsmpi_kspi, it is mentioned that today’s labour demonstration carries two demands. Namely, the ratification of a new Labour Law and the abolition of outsourcing, rejecting low wages.
