Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort (Polres Metro Jakarta Pusat) has mobilised 1,948 combined personnel to serve the demonstration held by the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Metal Workers’ Federation (DPP FSPMI) and several community elements in the DPR/MPR area on Thursday. “We are ready to serve the demonstrators and prioritise professionalism as well as a persuasive attitude in the field,” said the Chief of Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Pol Reynold EP Hutagalung, in Jakarta on Thursday. According to him, in serving this demonstration, Polres Metro Jakpus involves 1,948 combined personnel from the provincial police, police resorts, and police sectors under its jurisdiction. These officers, Reynold said, are deployed at several strategic points, especially in the DPR/MPR building area, to anticipate potential disturbances to public security and order (kamtibmas) as well as traffic congestion around the demonstration location. He also emphasised the importance of expressing opinions in an orderly manner, without violating rules or creating an anarchic situation. Reynold assured that all security personnel are not equipped with firearms and always prioritise a humanistic approach. Furthermore, he stated that traffic engineering for vehicles will be implemented situationally if there is a surge in the number of protesters or security disturbances. Meanwhile, based on the official Instagram account @fspmi_kspi, the demonstration will be held in front of the DPR/MPR building today, Thursday. In the demonstration, it is mentioned that thousands of workers are demanding the ratification of a new Employment Law and the abolition of outsourcing as well as low wages.
