The Aceh Provincial Government stated that the parade welcoming the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah serves as a reminder of the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina. The theme of the activity was ‘Semarak Muharram, Menguatkan Ukhuwah, Menebar Syiar Islam’, reflecting values considered very important for the life of Acehnese society.

Assistant III to the Aceh Regional Secretary, A Murthala, said in Banda Aceh on Tuesday that the month of Muharram reminds people of the Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina. He noted that migration is not merely a change of place, but also a transformation towards a better state.

The statement was delivered by A Murthala while reading the speech of Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf at the launch of the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah parade in Banda Aceh. Murthala said the spirit of the Prophet Muhammad’s journey needs to be applied in daily life, by improving morals, enhancing personal quality, strengthening social awareness, and bringing greater benefits to society.

He added that the parade was also part of spreading Islamic teachings in a polite and joyful manner. Amidst various life challenges, he said, brotherhood must continue to be safeguarded and strengthened. Unity, mutual respect, and the spirit of cooperation are important assets in building an advanced, peaceful, and prosperous Aceh. “Through orderly behaviour, good morals and a spirit of togetherness, we show that Islamic values are present in the life of Acehnese society and serve as a foundation for building a dignified civilisation,” said A Murthala.
