1,773 Civil Servants Begin Basic Military Training to Become Reserve Component
As many as 1,773 civil servants (ASN) from 49 ministries and agencies have begun undergoing basic military training (latsarmil) to become reserve components (Komcad). The opening of this basic military training was held at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.
The Head of the National Reserve Agency of the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General Gabriel Lema, stated that the 1,773 ASN participating in the training are employees who have passed physical health, psychological, and ideological mental tests. They will receive basic military training before being officially designated as reserve components on 5 June 2026.
“The formation of reserve components from ASN elements of ministries and agencies is a tangible manifestation of synergy in strengthening national defence,” said Gabriel after opening the Latsarmil event.
Gabriel mentioned that initially, 2,019 ASN participated in the selection to undergo military training. However, after passing a series of selections consisting of psychological and ideological assessments, the Ministry of Defence determined that only 1,773 individuals were eligible to become Komcad.
Subsequently, these thousands of ASN will undergo military training at six different educational institutions for 45 days. Among them, 257 ASN will be placed at the Centre for State Defence Education and Training in Bogor, West Java. Then, 222 people at Rindam Jaya in East Jakarta, 453 people at the Army Health Education Centre, 1,280 people at Brigif 1 Pasmar 1, 270 people at the Language Centre of Kodiklatau, and 291 people will be trained at Wingdik 500 Ayang Sanjaya.
Gabriel said that during the Komcad training, these ASN will be forged with education oriented towards building a spirit of corps, care, and discipline. He claimed that the formation of Komcad aims to ensure that national defence is well maintained and preserved.
According to Gabriel, the development of the strategic situation at the global, regional, and national levels continues to change and presents increasingly complex threats that are difficult to predict or foresee. On the other hand, Indonesia, as an archipelagic country with a vast expanse, holds a very strategic position in terms of geopolitics, geostrategy, and geo-economics.
“This condition demands the implementation of national defence that is planned meticulously and integrated through an active defensive defence strategy via layered defence,” he said.
In the Latsarmil opening agenda, the ASN appeared uniformly wearing camouflage uniforms and equipped with typical military gear. They lined up in the middle of the field to receive directives from the Ministry of Defence leadership. At the end, the ASN sang yells loudly accompanied by characteristic military foot and body stomps.
