1,755 Students Who Failed Denpasar State Middle School Admission to Receive Rp1.5 Million Subsidy

A total of 1,755 prospective students have failed to gain admission to state junior high schools (SMPN) in Denpasar through the domicile route of the New Student Admission Selection (SPMB). They must now enrol in private schools within the city.

Chairman of the SPMB committee at the Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Disdikpora) of Denpasar City, Ngakan Made Samudra, stated that 3,510 candidates were declared successful and have proceeded with the re-registration process at their intended schools. “The total number of registrations for the domicile route was 5,265 people, with 1,755 students not being accepted,” Ngakan explained on Monday (6/7/2026).

According to Ngakan, several factors contributed to the candidates’ failure to be selected. Besides losing out in the competitive selection process, some participants faced administrative obstacles, such as errors in uploading documents, using a Family Card (KK) issued outside Denpasar City, or using a non-permanent resident certificate as a substitute for the KK.

For prospective students who were not accepted into state schools and choose to continue their education in private institutions, the Denpasar City Government has prepared a subsidy to cover initial fees. This assistance is designated for students domiciled in Denpasar City who meet the established requirements.

Ida Bagus Suryadana, Head of the Junior High School Development Division at the Denpasar City Disdikpora, explained that one of the requirements for receiving the aid is having participated in the state junior high school SPMB in Denpasar but not being accepted. The budget for this subsidy has been allocated through the 2026 Revised Regional Budget (APBD Perubahan).

“The amount is Rp1.5 million per student, the same as last year,” he stated. The subsidy funds will be transferred directly to the private schools chosen by the students in Denpasar City.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Denpasar City Disdikpora, AA Gede Wiratama, said that the disbursement of the subsidy will be carried out after the new academic year begins. This step aims to ensure the validity of the recipient data. “It is only for those not accepted into state schools. Private schools will record the students receiving the aid and submit a proposal along with the Family Card (KK) and a printout of the verified registration proof showing they were not accepted,” he added. He expressed hope that the assistance would help ease the educational costs for students continuing their studies at private junior high schools.
