1,725 Presidential Staple Food Packages Arrive in Maumere
Logistical aid in the form of staple food packages from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, arrived in Maumere, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday (16/8).
The assistance is part of the government’s support to meet the basic needs of communities affected by disasters in several areas of NTT.
A total of 1,725 staple food packages were flown in using a Hercules aircraft and landed in Maumere. The aid is planned to be distributed to affected communities in two areas, namely 1,000 packages for Sikka Regency and 725 packages for Ende Regency.
The delivery of aid by air is part of a strategy to accelerate the fulfilment of basic needs amid conditions in affected areas that require rapid and coordinated logistical support.
In addition to Maumere, the same shipment also delivered 3,200 staple food packages to Labuan Bajo for distribution to West Manggarai, Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ngada, and Nagekeo regencies. Thus, the total staple food aid sent via Hercules aircraft A-1343 and A-1318 on 15 August reached 4,925 packages.
The assistance is part of a distribution plan for 50,000 staple food packages to support the handling of disaster-affected communities in the NTT region. Following the initial shipment, 45,075 staple food packages remain to be delivered in stages according to needs and developments in the field.
BNPB, together with regional governments and relevant parties, continues to coordinate to ensure that aid can be received promptly by communities in need. Meeting basic needs, including food, is one of the priorities in the early phase of emergency response.
Logistics distribution will also be adjusted based on needs assessments in each affected regency so that the aid sent can be accurately targeted and support the acceleration of disaster response.
This step is in line with BNPB’s emergency response strategy, which places the fulfilment of basic needs as one of the main focuses in the early phase of operations, while ensuring that the aid supply chain runs effectively from the centre to the affected areas.
