1,700 Kilometre Cycling Expedition Aims to Protect Sumatran Forests and Orangutans
Five cyclists commenced the ‘Hutan Merdeka’ Expedition from the National Monument (Monas) area in Jakarta on Sunday (2/8/2026). The group will traverse approximately 1,700 kilometres across five provinces on the island of Sumatra as part of a campaign to raise public awareness regarding the conservation of tropical forests and orangutan habitats.
In addition to campaigning for environmental protection, the participants will interact with local communities along the route to disseminate vital messages about the importance of maintaining forests as essential pillars of life and biodiversity.
