1.7 Million Vehicles Have Returned to Jabodetabek
As many as 1,702,500 vehicles, or 1.7 million vehicles, have returned to the Jabotabek area during the H-10 to H+2 period of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H/2026 holiday, or 11-23 March 2026, via toll roads managed by PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk. This was stated by Jasa Marga’s President Director, Rivan A. Purwantono. The figure is a cumulative traffic flow from four main toll gates: GT Cikampek Utama (towards Trans Java), GT Kalihurip Utama (towards Bandung), GT Cikupa (towards Merak), and GT Ciawi (towards Puncak). In his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, Rivan explained that this number equates to 50.16% of the total projection of 3.39 million vehicles expected to return to Jabotabek during the period of 11-31 March 2026. The return traffic to Jabotabek is dominated by flows from the east (Trans Java and Bandung), totalling 696,748 vehicles or 40.9%. Meanwhile, from the west (Merak), 568,159 vehicles or 33.4% were recorded, and from the south (Puncak), 437,593 vehicles or 25.7%. For detailed movements, vehicles from the Trans Java direction passing through GT Cikampek Utama totalled 309,156 vehicles, or 15.2% lower than normal traffic. Meanwhile, from the Bandung direction through GT Kalihurip Utama, 387,592 vehicles were recorded, down 7.1% from normal conditions. Overall, the flow from the east reached 696,748 vehicles, 10.9% lower than normal traffic. From the west, vehicles returning to Jabotabek through GT Cikupa totalled 568,159 vehicles, down 4.9% compared to normal conditions. From the south through GT Ciawi, 437,593 vehicles were recorded, 5.6% lower than normal traffic. Furthermore, Rivan explained that the volume of return traffic began to show an increase since H+2 of Eid 2026. “Vehicle traffic flow is expected to continue increasing, especially during the peak return period on 24, 28, and 29 March 2026,” he said, as quoted from Antara. Meanwhile, on H+2 Eid or Monday, 23 March 2026, the number of vehicles returning to Jabotabek through the four main toll gates totalled 225,293 vehicles. This figure is up 73.7% compared to normal traffic of 129,695 vehicles. A significant increase was recorded at GT Cikampek Utama, with volume reaching 75,837 vehicles or an increase of 197.7% compared to normal traffic. Jasa Marga has also strengthened services on several main toll sections by optimising gate operations, preparing toll road service fleets, and implementing situational traffic arrangements according to police discretion. In addition, the company has prepared functional lanes to support traffic distribution and ensured 24-hour readiness of personnel. Jasa Marga urges road users to prepare their journeys thoroughly during this return period, including ensuring vehicles and drivers are in prime condition before travelling and complying with traffic rules and instructions from on-site officers. “To obtain traffic information and assist with journey planning, the public can use the Travoy application and contact Jasa Marga’s Call Center at 133,” said Rivan. For road users with time flexibility, Jasa Marga suggests shifting return schedules to Jabotabek during the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy period on 25-27 March 2026 to avoid peak density. Users can also take advantage of a 30% toll discount on 26-27 March 2026 on nine Jasa Marga Group toll roads with a continuous journey scheme. Rivan hopes this policy will help distribute traffic more evenly while curbing potential congestion. “Through thorough journey planning by road users and strengthened collaboration with relevant stakeholders, it is hoped that travel during this return period will proceed safely, comfortably, smoothly, and securely,” he stated.
