1,588 Participants Break MURI Record with Penthul Tembem Creative Exercise in Gunungkidul

The Gunungkidul Regency Government has secured a record from the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) for a Penthul Tembem Creative Exercise involving 1,588 female participants on the alternative Sleman-Gunungkidul road. This activity was part of the Geopark Night Specta (GNS) 2026 event held in the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano tourist area in Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The Penthul Tembem Creative Exercise is a routine that combines sports movements with traditional Penthul Tembem dance elements, utilising the comical Penthul and Tembem mask characters from the Reog Keprajuritan art form as a regional cultural identity. This exercise merges physical movements with traditional dance, making it a medium for cultural preservation as well as a fitness activity.
