1,500 Temporary Shelters in Sahraja, East Aceh Targeted for Completion by Eid
Construction of 1,500 temporary shelter (huntara) units has begun in Sahraja Village, Pantai Bidari Sub-district, East Aceh, in the aftermath of the flash floods that struck at the end of November 2025. The shelters are planned for completion by Eid al-Fitr.
Sahraja Village in East Aceh was one of the worst-affected areas when flash floods hit Aceh in November 2025.
Commander of Military Sub-district (Danramil) 20/Pante Bidari, Muhammad Irwan, said there had been no obstacles in the shelter construction so far.
“There have been no issues to date. Construction has already started,” Irwan said on Sunday (23 February), as quoted by Antara.
According to Antara’s observations, a number of land plots have been levelled and prepared for the construction of shelter units.
Irwan also explained that several access roads to Sahraja Village, which had previously been blocked by mud, are now open and passable by vehicles.
Mud clearance has been one of the key activities carried out by the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) since the floods first struck the area.
“We have now entered the recovery phase, such as the construction of temporary shelters,” Irwan said.
A Sahraja Village resident, Rudi Jasa, expressed gratitude for the support provided by volunteers, the government, and other parties involved.
He acknowledged that shelter construction in Sahraja Village has been slower compared to other villages, owing to the difficult access from the main road.
“Thank God the shelters have started being built. Our area is slower because it is far from the town centre. When it rains, transporting materials to the site becomes a challenge, which is why our area is the slowest,” Rudi said.
Based on information he had received, Rudi said residents originally living in Sarah Gala Hamlet would be relocated to higher ground.
“Because this area (Sarah Gala Hamlet) is prone to flooding,” Rudi said.
