1.5-Hectare Land Fire Disrupts Driver Visibility on Pantura Cirebon

A massive fire broke out on vacant land along the Pantura route, precisely on the Cirebon-Jakarta Bypass Road in Arjawinangun Village, Arjawinangun District, Cirebon Regency, on Tuesday (14/7/2026) afternoon. The flames engulfed an area of approximately 15,000 square metres (1.5 hectares).

Eno Sujana, Head of the Firefighting, Rescue, and Infrastructure Division at the Cirebon Regency Fire and Rescue Service, explained that the Arjawinangun Sector fire station received a report from local village officials at 13:46 WIB. The initial report mentioned a rubbish fire on the roadside.

Firefighters immediately rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that the fire had not only consumed piles of rubbish but had also spread to the dry reeds and bushes adjacent to PT Seyang Active Wear.

He explained that strong winds combined with dry vegetation caused the flames to grow and spread rapidly and massively. Officers immediately undertook localisation and extinguishing efforts.

“To anticipate the expansion of the fire area while maintaining the water supply, officers on the ground requested assistance from the Palimanan and Weru Sectors,” he said.

Nevertheless, thanks to the officers’ alertness, the fire was finally extinguished at 15:15 WIB. Personnel then continued the cooling process until 15:46 WIB to ensure no remaining embers could potentially reignite.

Eno stated that, based on a witness account, the land fire was caused by an individual burning rubbish. The strong winds and dry condition of the reeds and bushes caused the fire to grow rapidly.

“Out of the total vacant land area of approximately 2.3 hectares, the burnt area covers 1.5 hectares,” he explained.

The fire service has urged the public not to burn rubbish carelessly, especially near vacant land or areas with dry vegetation. This is particularly important during windy conditions, which can quickly trigger large fires.
