A total of 1,448 dulang enlivened the 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah Festival in East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The event, which cost approximately Rp 2 billion, formed part of the Islamic New Year commemoration in the region.

Thousands of women joined the procession to welcome 1 Muharram. They carried dulang filled with various foods, covered with red food covers known as Tembolak Beak. Not only the general public, but students and regional apparatus organisations (OPD) also took part in the parade.

East Lombok Regent Haerul Warisin explained that the number of 1,448 dulang symbolised the Hijri year being commemorated, 1448 Hijriah. The parade involved the community, students, and the ranks of the East Lombok Regency Government (Pemkab).

“We symbolise the 1448 Hijrah with these 1,448 Dulang, that is why the number is that,” explained the Regent, familiarly known as Iron, on Monday afternoon (15/6/2026).

The 1 Muharram Festival in East Lombok is scheduled to last for a week. The activities began with a taaruf parade as a form of celebrating the change of the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijriah.

“So that the community also knows that 1 Muharram must indeed be enlivened, to celebrate and remind our community,” said Iron.

He added that the 1 Muharram Festival will continue to be held annually. The regional government has prepared a budget of around Rp 2 billion through the APBD to support the implementation of the event.

“It is indeed our annual agenda. It is even budgeted through the APBD, around 2 billion,” he added.
