1,256 MBG Kitchens in Eastern Indonesia Temporarily Halted from 1 April 2026
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has taken firm action by temporarily suspending operations of 1,256 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) in the eastern Indonesia region, effective from 1 April 2026.
Rudi Setiawan, Director of Regional Monitoring and Supervision III at BGN, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, that this step is due to the SPPGs not having registered for Hygiene Sanitation Certificates (SLHS) and lacking Wastewater Treatment Installations (IPAL).
“The SPPGs we plan to suspend, effective from 1 April 2026 in Region III, are those without SLHS and IPAL,” said Rudi.
According to him, possession of SLHS and IPAL is an absolute requirement for all SPPGs to ensure food safety and maintain environmental hygiene standards in implementing the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.
“We want to ensure that all SPPGs fully meet the standards, both in terms of food safety and waste management. This is crucial to protect the health of the beneficiaries,” Rudi emphasised.
BGN has previously given time and opportunities for SPPGs to complete these requirements. However, up to the deadline, several SPPGs have not registered for SLHS or provided IPAL facilities.
Furthermore, Rudi mentioned that his agency will continue periodic monitoring and evaluation. SPPGs that meet all provisions can resume operations after a verification process.
“We encourage the suspended SPPGs to make improvements and complete the requirements immediately. After that, they can reapply for verification to resume operations,” Rudi explained.
Previously, BGN Head Dadan Hindayana emphasised that imposing sanctions on SPPGs for serious violations—from infrastructure not meeting standards, absence of IPAL, to lack of SLHS—is a manifestation of the government’s commitment to maintaining the quality of the MBG programme.
“We will not tolerate any form of standard violations. This programme concerns public health, so quality must be the top priority,” said Dadan in Jakarta on Friday, 20 March 2026.
Dadan stressed that sanctions are part of the coaching process that all managers must adhere to. “SP-1 and SP-2 are stern warnings for managers to make improvements immediately. If ignored, operational suspension will be an unavoidable consequence,” he asserted.
