1,250 Combined Personnel Deployed Ahead of Gibran's Arrival in NTT
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka is scheduled to undertake a working visit to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on 21-22 May 2026. A total of 1,250 combined TNI-Polri personnel have been placed on standby to secure his arrival during his stay in NTT.
Brigadier General Hendro Cahyono, commander of Korem 161/Wira Sakti Kupang, led a troop deployment ceremony ahead of Gibran’s arrival. Gibran will review national strategic projects (PSN) as well as a centre for seaweed farming and salt ponds, particularly in Rote Ndao Regency, NTT.
‘This troop deployment aims to ensure the readiness of all security elements, both personnel and matériel, and the security pattern that will be implemented during the series of working visits,’ Hendro said in a statement on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
In the same ceremony, Hendro read out the message from Pangdam IX/Udayana, Major General Piek Budyakto. The VVIP security deployment ceremony was also attended by NTT Police Chief Irjen Rudi Darmoko and representatives from the Indonesian Air Force, Kodaeral VII Kupang.
Hendro explained the need for synergy among the TNI, Polri, local government, and the community to ensure a safe and conducive environment. He said security personnel would prioritise a humane approach while remaining firm against any potential security disturbances.
‘Approximately 1,250 personnel have been deployed for the Vice President’s working visit in NTT,’ he added.
Gibran is scheduled to arrive at El Tari Airport, Kupang, NTT this afternoon. The eldest son of the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), is expected to inaugurate a salt pond (Tambak Garam) in Rote Ndao, NTT.
