1.04-tonne Cow from Central Lombok Bought by Prabowo – Rp499 Billion in Economic Activity
A cattle owned by a breeder from Sasake Village, Praya Tengah District, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), was selected as the kurban aid animal for President Prabowo Subianto during Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah/2026. The male cow named Black Panther weighs as much as 1.04 tonnes. ‘We named this cow Black Panther because of its black colour and toughness. There is no deeper philosophy, just black,’ said the cow’s owner, Ahmad Dimiati, on Wednesday (20/5/2026) at its pen. Ahmad said that based on the last weighing, the cow’s weight is around 1.04 tonnes. However, he expects the weight to increase ahead of shipment due to ongoing care. ‘It might be close to 1.1 tonnes. I feed it regularly, and I am really meticulous in caring for it,’ he added. Ahmad explained that the predominantly black cow with a touch of white has been cared for for more than 1.5 years. Its exceptional physical quality led to Black Panther being bought at a high price by the presidency, namely Rp 142 million. ‘The plan is to send this to Sumbawa. That’s what I have heard,’ he said. Ahmad said he is proud that his cattle could be bought by the number one person in Indonesia. This also motivates him to work harder in cattle farming so that each year it can be purchased by Prabowo. ‘Proud indeed. Who wouldn’t be proud to be bought by the President,’ he said. Maintaining a cow to reach a weight of more than one tonne requires high dedication. Ahmad said he applies strict care management because there is a quality target to achieve. ‘The care is strict. The feed has a balanced composition of the nutrients in the feed itself. The balance between protein, carbohydrates, and minerals,’ he asserted. He explained that the last inspection by the Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry was conducted on 28 April 2026. Ahmad stated that it is also routinely checked by animal health authorities to ensure the kurban cow’s health. ‘It will still be checked here. I do not know when it will be taken to Sumbawa. The plan is to slaughter it in Sumbawa,’ he concluded. President Prabowo’s kurban cattle in Mataram weighs 979 kg. Mataram City also received a kurban cow from Prabowo. The kurban cow weighs 979 kilograms. ‘The quota of President Prabowo’s kurban cow in Mataram is, God willing, 979 kilograms,’ said Lalu Martawang, Assistant I to the City Secretary of Mataram, during an interview in his office on Wednesday (20/5/2026). Martawang expressed appreciation and gratitude to the central government for the attention given to Mataram City. He confirmed that the kurban cow has met health standards and the weight set. He explained that the cow weighing nearly a tonne originates from a local breeder in NTB. However, the selection was based on specific specifications set by the central government. ‘Clearly this cow is from NTB and does not go outside NTB. If it is not available from a Mataram breeder, it is not due to non-selection but because the specifications are specific. It must meet weight and health requirements,’ he said. He added that Prabowo’s kurban cow would be handed over in Bebidas, Pagesangan, Mataram. The cow will be handed over after Eid prayers in the eastern car park of Lombok Epicentrum Mall. 27,449 Kurban Cattle from NTB Sent to Other Regions, Rp499 Billion in Economic Turnover. The NTB Provincial Government (Pemprov NTB) records that 27,449 head of kurban cattle from Lombok and Sumbawa have been shipped to various regions across Indonesia ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah. The most shipments went to the Jakarta area. Head of the NTB Food and Animal Health Service, Muhamad Riadi, said the 2026 cattle shipment quota from NTB is 52,517 head. By April 2026, 32,226 head had been shipped outside the province. ‘In April, 20,291 head remained to be shipped outside. The largest remainder is on Sumbawa with 13,061 head,’ Riadi said on Wednesday (20/5/2026). According to Riadi, the majority of cattle shipments from NTB still go to the Jabodetabek area, totalling 24,974 head. In addition, NTB cattle are shipped to several other areas such as Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, Aceh, South Sumatra, and West Sumatra, totalling 27,449 head. ‘So we do not only ship to Jabodetabek. There are many requests from regions like South Kalimantan. These are our new markets that need to be protected,’ he said. Riadi explained that shipments to Jabodetabek in recent years have fluctuated. In 2023, shipments reached 23,100 head; in 2024, 22,157 head; and in 2025, 20,452 head. ‘In 2025, shipments were very crowded. So we formed a task force (satgas) for 2026. This task force has been very effective in smoothing shipments at Gili Mas Port, Lombok Barat,’ he added. The NTB provincial government also imposes tight regulation on the distribution of kurban cattle. Through a circular from the NTB Governor, the number of cattle transported by trailer trucks is limited to a maximum of 30 head to prevent deaths during travel. ‘This year we shipped 24,974 head. None of the cattle died on ships or trucks. So we regulate shipment times to avoid congestion,’ Riadi emphasised. Riadi revealed that the price of NTB cattle in Jakarta markets ranges from Rp 20 million to Rp 23 million per head. If calculated at an average price of Rp 20 million, the total economic turnover from this year’s kurban cattle shipments reaches around Rp 499 billion. ’That does not include shipping and cattle-catching costs. These shipping costs are around Rp 30 million per truck. So that …
