The Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police are deploying 1,031 combined personnel to secure the protest rally organised by the University of Indonesia’s Student Executive Board (BEM UI) along with various community elements in the Gambir area, Central Jakarta.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Reynold EP Hutagalung stated that the security measures are being carried out with a humane approach while still respecting the public’s right to express opinions.

“We are here to serve the public in conveying their aspirations in a professional manner and in accordance with the rules,” he said.

The deployed personnel come from the Metro Jaya Regional Police, District Police, and sub-district police units to ensure the protest proceeds safely and orderly.

The action is organised by BEM UI as a form of solidarity with activist Andrie Yunus, who became a victim of an acid attack.

In their call via social media, BEM UI expressed support for the civil society coalition’s efforts to file a material examination of the TNI Law, particularly Article 47, at the Constitutional Court.

As part of the action, students plan to escort the lawsuit process by holding a demonstration around the Constitutional Court area. Security is provided to ensure that the aspiration conveyance activities remain orderly, while maintaining a conducive security situation in the government centre.
