Cimahi City Square, West Java, was filled with a sea of people on Tuesday (22/09/2026). They performed the Istisqa prayer, a spiritual effort to seek blessings and rainfall during a long dry season that has significantly impacted Cimahi City.

Around 08:00 WIB, more than 1,000 people from both the government and the community had gathered at the Zero Point of Cimahi City. The intense heat of the sun did not diminish their intention or devotion in participating in the Istisqa prayer as a form of both physical and spiritual effort amidst weather conditions that necessitate rainfall.

“There were more than 1,000 people from the Cimahi City Government, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), and the entire community of Cimahi City present to perform the Istisqa prayer,” said the Mayor of Cimahi, Ngatiyana.

Ngatiyana emphasised the importance of spiritual efforts through worship and collective prayer alongside the local government’s technical endeavours to overcome the challenges of the long dry season, which is accompanied by this year’s El Niño phenomenon. This spiritual step was taken as an expression of surrender and a collective effort to seek the mercy and help of Allah SWT, so that favourable weather and sufficient rainfall may be granted to restore the natural environment.

“We are asking Allah SWT to bring rain immediately because the current situation and conditions involve a long drought. Meanwhile, water is a fundamental necessity for humans,” he said.

Ngatiyana revealed that this prolonged dry season has had a significant impact on the availability of clean water in Cimahi City. There have already been numerous reports from residents complaining about the difficulty of obtaining clean water supplies.
