1,000 Civil Servants Affected by Jakarta Bapenda Building Fire to Work from Home

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that around 1,000 state civil apparatus (ASN) affected by the fire at the DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) building are implementing a work-from-home (WFH) or work-from-anywhere (WFA) scheme. “Until this can be resolved, we are implementing what is called Work From Home or Work From Everywhere, so that existing work is not disrupted,” said Pramono after visiting a pedestrian bridge in the HR Rasuna Said area, Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Sunday.

Pramono noted that the burnt building was used by several Regional Apparatus Organisations (OPD), including Bapenda, the Transportation Agency, and the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM). The fire affected several floors of the building, from the 11th to the 16th floor. The fire started on Friday (7/8) at around 21.30 WIB and was subsequently extinguished.

Following coordination, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government decided to temporarily relocate the civil servants working in the building to their respective sub-department units. “We immediately decided that for the time being, the ASN in that building will be moved to their respective sub-department offices,” said Pramono. The implementation of the WFH arrangement, Pramono added, is not only to ensure the safety of the civil servants but also to guarantee that government functions continue to operate while the building is unusable.

The Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department (Gulkarmat Jakpus) stated that the fire at the DKI Jakarta Bapenda building on Jalan Abdul Muis, Petojo Selatan, Gambir, originated on the 11th floor. The Central Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-department deployed 40 fire engines and 200 personnel to extinguish the blaze. The Metro Jaya Regional Police also deployed 125 personnel to secure the area around the Bapenda building fire site. Additionally, the 0501/Central Jakarta Military District Command deployed 50 personnel to secure the location around the scene.
