Microplastics in Jakarta Rain: BRIN Study Reveals Air Pollution Crisis Linked to Plastic Waste

Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency has confirmed that microplastics from clothing fibres, tyre dust, and decomposing waste contaminate rainfall across Jakarta, with coastal monitoring stations recording approximately 15 particles per square metre daily. Whilst the rain itself is non-toxic, the microplastics can release harmful chemicals and accumulate pollutants that threaten human health and food chains.
