Indonesia and Japan have committed to deepening their defence and economic partnerships to counter China's growing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific, including militarisation of the South China Sea and incursions into Indonesia's exclusive economic zones. The collaboration encompasses joint military exercises, defence technology exchanges, and enhanced economic cooperation, with Japan positioning itself as an alternative to China's Belt and Road Initiative.

Indonesia's government has finalised the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage cost at Rp89.4 million per person—a 4.28% decrease from 2024—with the state subsidising 38% whilst pilgrims cover 62%, reflecting improved logistics coordination and a commitment to accessibility. Pilgrims can pay via instalments into authorised bank accounts, with the government funding round-trip flights, accommodation in Mecca and Medina, and living expenses.
