Indonesia Enacts Cigarette Regulation to Combat Teenage Smoking

Indonesia has enacted Government Regulation PP 28 of 2024, signed by President Jokowi, to reduce teenage smoking by prohibiting single-cigarette sales and restricting tobacco sales within 200 metres of schools and online. The regulation aims to lower smoking rates among 10-18-year-olds from the current 7.4 per cent to the national target of 5.4 per cent, whilst addressing broader healthcare access in underserved areas.
