Indonesia ranks second globally in halal industrial product consumption with the US$1.4 trillion market, though the country imports significantly more halal products than it exports. Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia Doni P. Joewono emphasised the need to strengthen the halal ecosystem domestically, with the central bank supporting 112 MSMEs through regional initiatives to enhance Indonesia's competitive position in the international Sharia economy sector.
