Indonesia is undertaking an ambitious initiative to develop three million hectares of new rice fields across Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Sumatra to enhance food security and reduce import dependency for its large population. The project includes infrastructure improvements such as irrigation systems and roads, whilst balancing agricultural expansion with environmental sustainability concerns including deforestation and soil degradation. If successful, the initiative could strengthen the agricultur
