Indonesia’s Bizzy hopes to win where Rocket Internet failed, nabs $2.5M funding

Rocket Internet launched OfficeFab in Indonesia back in late 2012 with the idea that the business supplies ecommerce site would service all of Southeast Asia. Despite some early traction, investor interest tapered off and the service eventually ceased in June 2013. Rocket then diverted the remaining funds to its India operation OfficeYes, a firm that may have seemed more promising to Oliver Samwer. Fast forward two years. OfficeFab is long gone and OfficeYes in India is also nowhere to be found.

Indonesia to impose coal export tax next month: Govt official

JAKARTA - Indonesia will impose a 1.5 per cent tax on coal exports from next month, government officials said on Monday, in a bid to boost state revenue and keep more of the power station fuel at home. The world's top thermal coal exporter will introduce the tax on Aug. 8 for firms with newer mining licences, known as IUPs. "It only applies for IUPs and traders who export coal,"Gultom Guska, senior coal official with the mines ministry, told Reuters.

Sarong makers struggling with low Ramadhan demand

Having struggled with weak sales over the past several months, sarong makers in Majalaya district, Bandung regency, West Java, are selling their products below normal price during the Islamic fasting month of Ramadhan to keep up with production costs and avoid total shutdown.
