Surpassing 2010 target, RI aims to lure 7.7 mln tourists

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia last year surpassed the government-set target of 7 million, with their spending estimated at US$7.6 billion, up 20.63 percent from a year earlier. More than 7.002 million foreign tourists visited the archipelagic country of more than 17,000 islands last year, a 10.74 percent increase compared to 6.32 million the year before.

Govt expects US$150 billion investment to accelerate development

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government expects investment to reach US$150 billion to accelerate development efforts in various fields. "We are expecting US$150 billion investment," Industry Minister MS Hidayat said after attending a limited cabinet meeting on business at the presidential office here on Friday. Hidayat said the investment was needed among others to develop the agricultural sector, the mining sector and a number of industries which could give an added value.

M`sian bizman to build 300 condos in Maluku

Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - Malaysian businessman Datuk Wong Hee Toh is to build 300 condominiums in the Kudamati area for foreigners who want to do business in Ambon. "What has prompted the Malaysian businessman is Maluku`s tourism potential. Tourism is a self-reliant people`s economic source," he said. Khadijah Iskandar, director of Damuli Sarana Sdn. Bhd. of Malaysia said Wong Hee Teh had visited Ambon in early January and surveyed the area to be developed as a "business center".

Bali to produce 37,000 tons of fish

Denpasar (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian tourist resort province of Bali has set itself a target of producing 37,000 tons of fish in 2011, a fishery official said. "The target is far higher than the production in 2010 which was only 324,000 tons," Head of Bali`s Maritime and Fishery Service, I Gusti Putu Nuriatha said here on Sunday. He said that the regional government however expected that Bali would be able to achieve the target.

Bali to Produce 155,000 Tons of Seaweed

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Bali aims at producing 155,000 tons of seaweed in 2011, head of the Bali fishery and marine agency Gusti Putu Nuriatha said here Saturday. "The target is higher than last year`s 145 tons," he said. He added that the increase in seaweed production could be achieved since only a small portion of Bali`s large potential has been used.
