In the last two years Indonesia has been an investment darling, with its shares increasing 46% in 2010 alone, tops among the world's largest markets. Unlike many of its Asian neighbors, Indonesia lacks an export-driven economy or a massive global diaspora. It makes for a country that seems much smaller than it is. Indonesia to require utility PLN to buy geothermal power
JAKARTA Feb 10 (Reuters) - Indonesia's energy ministry said on Thursday it will issue a decree ordering state-owned utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to buy electricity generated from geothermal power plants at a ceiling price of 9.7 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour.

Food Containing Pork to Display Picture of Pig
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) said that all food products containing pork or those which have been processed alongside pork products, must display a red square with a picture of a pig. BPOM chief, Kustantinah said that the picture must be displayed in every packaging of the product. This step is taken to provide proper information to the Muslim majority Indonesian people.

RI must become economic growth center : VP
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono said that Indonesia should be developed into a center for economic growth, not as a mere energy supplier for other countries because energy need at home had also continued to increase. "Indonesia must become an economic growth center, not as a mere energy supplier," Vice Presidential Spokesman Yopie Hidayat said here on Wednesday. The vice president has ordered state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina to follow the national gas grand design.

New tax chief to target big taxpayers
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The new director general of taxation, Fuad Rahmany, said he would target big taxpayers to achieve the potential tax revenue of Rp708 trillion in 2011. "Many big tax payers that have not paid tax fully. So with the capacity that we have we will find them, identify transactions that are taxable and companies that have not paid tax. That is the capacity that has been built so far and which we have just to boost it," he said here on Thursday.

Govt urged to control coal exports
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia Mining Community has called on the government to control coal exports to ansure fulfillment of domestic needs. The Chairman of the Presidium of the Indonesia Mining Community, Herman Afif Kusumo, said here on Thursday that coal must be seen as an energy commodity used to energize economic growth. "Coal must not be seen as a mere foreign exchange earner," he said. He said excessive coal production would also cause environmental destructions.
