New policy needed to secure agricultural lands: President
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Indonesia needs a new policy or regulation to secure agricultural lands to prevent them from being used for non-agricultural purposes. "A new policy or regulation is really needed to secure agricultural lands. I have just signed a government regulation for that purpose," the president said at his office here on Thursday.

Babel to cultivate 1 million tons of seaweed
Pangkalpinang, Babel Province (ANTARA News) - Bangka-Belitung (Babel) province has set itself the target of cultivating one million tons of seaweed up to 2015 in the region`s coastal waters. A spokesman of Babel`s marine and fisheries office, Fhores Fherado, said here on Thursday seaweed had a high economic value and if cultivated on a large scale could improve the welfare of the fishermen`s community in the province.

Govt to pursue nine ways to stabilize food prices
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the government would implement nine solutions to keep the domestic food prices stable in the midst of rising world food prices. "The solutions we are going to implement are approaches from first downstream and later to upstream," he said at his office here on Thursday at a cabinet meeting on food prices. He said the first solution is market operations to control the price of certain commodity.

Vegetable seed exports reach US$22.67 million
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s exports of vegetables` seeds in 2010 reached US$22.67 million, up by more than US$9 million from US$13.71 million in 2009. The director general of horticulture of the ministry of agriculture, Hasanuddin Ibrahim, said here on Thursday the seeds exported come from 13 commodities namely "kangkung" (water spinach), "pare" (bitter melon), cucumber, chili, legume and squash.
