Palm estate is forest, says ministry

The Forestry Ministry is drafting a decree to include oil palm plantations in the forest sector to comply with international standards in mitigating climate change. The ministry said it believed the policy would not lead to massive forest conversion into palm oil plantations as many critics feared.

Govt optimizing geothermal energy development in East Java

Surabaya (ANTARA News) - The government, in this case the East Java Investment Agency (BPM) is optimizing the geothermal energy rate in the province, in line with its renewable natural resource potential. "This year we will try to utilize the geothermal energy content as a priority of the East Java BPM project," Head of the E Java BPM office Tutut Tri Herawati said here Monday.

Coal industry`s revenue may drop : association chairman

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The income of coal companies may drop by Rp17 trillion this year due to the implementation of Law Number 26 of 2007, Bob Kamandanu said here on Monday. The chairman of the Association of Indonesian Coal Miners (APBI) said if the law on spatial arrangement was implemented the operations of coal mining companies should be stopped because their land use permit would not be able to be extended.
