House delegates authority on SEZs
The House of Representatives endorsed the special economic zone (SEZ) bill on Tuesday, delegating legal powers to a new government body for the promotion of these more liberal trade and development regions. The law basically allows the new National Council on SEZs to make feasibility assessments to request the establishment of SEZs proposed by regional governments, prior to presidential approval.

Foreign tourists can apply for tax refund
Foreign tourists visiting Indonesia can apply for a tax refund when buying goods here next year, according to the newly endorsed law on value added tax and luxury tax. Under the law that is set to be effective starting on Apr. 1, 2010, foreign tourists can apply for a refund if the goods purchased have a minimum value added tax of Rp 500,000 (US$50).

House Proposes Luxurious Goods Tax on High Powered Vehicles
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The House of Representatives has proposed to classify high-powered vehicle, yacht, and luxurious house into list of items to become subjects to luxurious goods tax, a lawmaker leading the legislation informed on Wednesday. What I am looking for is a small company capable of surface mount handling and small batches. There would also be assembly work to put it all together. I am not bothered if they use an overseas company to do the boards and then assembly locally. As long as the assembly is done in Indonesia there is not an issue with it. don't know, but i could find out. electronics companies in batam are on the decline; many big companies, like panasonic, have pulled out. seems oil and gas and shipbuilding are the main industries now.

Moody's upgrades Indonesia sovereign ratings

Kuku, do you know how I can find out if there are any PCB fabrication and population companies in Batam? Is there a company register somewhere? Doing a Google search throws up very little and you end up getting links to Chinese companies instead. Cheers.

Greenpeace stops Indonesian palm kernel shipment
Activists from the international environmental organization Greenpeace boarded a ship carrying palm kernel animal feed from Indonesia on Wednesday off the New Zealand coast and called on the government to ban the cargo. They locked themselves to the ship, East Ambition, its anchor chain and four cargo cranes, and vowed to prevent the cargo from being unloaded at Tauranga, its destination port on the east coast of the North Island.
