EU grants boosts Indonesia's oil palm exports
The Jakarta Post, Opinion The Jakarta Post carried an opinion feature by Oxley on Aug. 3 entitled "A new protectionist threat: Anti-growth environmentalism". I wish to take this opportunity to respond. Oxley states that the EU Renewable Energy Directive "threatens to block imports of biofuel from Indonesia". He goes on to say that "EU would be seeking to use trade barriers and climate change objectives to restrict imports of timber products from Indonesia".

Govt to revise regulations hampering infrastructure development
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government is ready to revise a number of regulations considered to have hampered acceleration of infrastructure development in the country. "We are going to revise and develop some regulations for the acceleration of infrastructure development," State Minister for National Development Planning Paskah Suzetta said here on Wednesday.

Indonesia Inco says nickel mine normal, despite protest
SOROWAKO, Indonesia, Aug 6 (Reuters) - PT International Nickel Indonesia (INCO.JK) said its nickel mine on Indonesia's Sulawesi island was operating normally on Thursday despite road blocks by about 500 villagers protesting over job cuts. Last month, Inco said it planned to cut 87 jobs, nearly 3 percent of its workforce, to reduce costs in response to the global financial crisis.

Indonesia's Appetite for Credit Cards Still Strong
Credit card use by the nation’s consumers has been little affected by the global financial crisis, with outstanding loans and transaction values showing continued growth, according to the latest data from the Indonesian Credit Card Association. From April to May, total loans outstanding on credit cards stood at Rp 31.7 trillion ($3.2 billion), up Rp 1.1 trillion from the March-to-April period. The figure was Rp 25.6 trillion from April to May 2008.
