Indonesian islands ‘not for sale’

State Secretary Hatta Radjasa said Thursday that none of Indonesia’s territory was for sale despite a website advertising offers for three islands in the western part of the country. Hatta told reporters at the Presidential Palace that investors might lease or develop resorts on those islands, but any claim or attempt at ownership of Indonesian territory would constitute a “serious violation” of the law. “There is no way that [any of our] islands can be sold.

Indonesia fastest growing economy in southeast Asia

Jakarta - Official statistics showed that Indonesia still had the fastest-growing economy in Southeast Asia, with improving prices for the country`s key export commodities and a robust domestic market credited for the good result. The country`s gross domestic product growth of 4 percent in the second quarter placed Indonesia among the top three fastest growing economies in Asia, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said.

RI seeks to increase coal production to bolster revenue

Indonesia expects to increase coal production by up to 20 million tons next year as lawmakers insist that the government must book higher non-tax revenue from the mining sector in 2010. Bambang Setiawan, the director general for coal, minerals, and geothermal at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, said the House of Representatives’ budget committee had asked the government to set a non-tax revenue target of Rp 15 trillion (US$1.48 billion) from the mining sector in 2010.

Govt holds inter-departmental meeting on islands sale issue

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government held an inter-departmental meeting in Padang, West Sumatra, on Thursday night to discuss the alleged sale of three islands off the province`s west coast to a foreign party. The meeting among representatives of the ministries of home affairs, marine resources and fisheries, law and human rights, was facilitated by West Sumatra Governor Gamawan Fauzi, Home Affairs Minister Mardiiyanto said here Thursday.
