Government to Simplify Liquor Import and Distribution
Fight Predicted Ahead as Government Department Seek to Retain Lucrative Power Base. (5/30/2009) Bisnis Indonesia reports that the Indonesian Department of Trade is in the process of revising regulations pertaining to the import of alcoholic beverages. Currently under consideration is a simplification of the current rules that would unify the two different set of rules now governing imported and locally produced alcohol.

Wiranto To Renegotiate Contracts With Foreign Corporations
Bengkulu (ANTARA News) - Vice presidential candidate Wiranto said here on Saturday that Jusuf Kalla and him would renegotiate contracts with foreign corporations if they won the election later on July 8. "We will renegotiate contracts with foreign corporations operating in the country and in the future corporations should not give no benefit to the people or at least must divide their profit equally," he said.

Govt urged to review fish export restrictions
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Fishery Businesses Association (Gappindo) has expressed hope that the government would review its export restriction policy on certain types of fish products. Gappindo general chairman Herwindo said here on Saturday that the large number of species of fish banned for exports reflected the government`s exaggerated interference in the fishery sector.

Indonesian Garment Exports Down 0.8 Pct
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian garment exports have dropped around 0.8 percent due to the impact of the financial crisis in the US, the executive director of Textile Indonesia, Retmo, said here on Saturday. "Our textile production is down around five percent as a result of a drop in exports," Retmo said. She said however that in the first quarter this year the domestic market was up around 25 percent.
