I would imagine he's done his homework. However, he's a very irritable sort of fellow and after more than a decade in Singapore will find things tougher, somewhat, out in the Indonesian provinces.

Those scrappy little sandbars close to Padang are crap. Unless they mean the mentawais, which are fabulous but too far away to be practicable except for zealots dead keen on surfing and ethno-botany.
