Three unnamed South Korean shoemakers are set to invest US$200 million in Indonesia, with two planning to build new factories and the third to expand output of Adidas shoes at its existing site. Eddy Widjanarko, chairman of the Indonesian Shoemakers Association, said Friday the two new factories would be in Tangerang, Banten and Surabaya, East Java, and that the one set to undergo expansion was in Sukabumi, West Java.

More work needed to meet tourism target

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta Indonesia, Southeast Asia's largest economy, has been cashing in from increasing foreign tourist arrivals, thanks to better security, more money on promotion and mushrooming leisure events. Between January and June this year, the country recorded a 11.6 percent jump in tourist arrivals to 2.9 million from 2.59 in the same period last year, says a recent report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

Tanners group looks to overseas amid shortage

The Indonesian Tanners Association is seeking suppliers to source raw and pickled goat leather and sheep skin from nine countries to compensate for a lack of leather supply in the country. The association's secretary general Agit Punto Yuwono said Friday the grouping was now eyeing at least nine new source countries. "Our slaughter houses have a total production capacity of 20 million sheets of goat and sheep skin, but the country only supplies 5 million sheets.

Corruptive Attitude Remains, Says KPK

This conclusion resulted from a survey carried out by KPK between February and June 2008. Out of 2,191 respondents, 51.66 percent stated no improvement at all before and after KPK was established.
