outsourcers in this country can absolve their responsibility for their minimum wage obligations, rendering the whole minimum wage concept risible here. Outsourcing is pure evil in this country- which needs real unions by the way.

Interesting that the outsourcing issue is kicking off again. Maybe the unions know that one of the first things SBY's government will try and change are the manpower outsourcing regulations. Remember they tried a few years ago but unfortunately he backed down. While the workers like to blame the the outsourcing companies it's the their client that decides what jobs will be outsourced. I have talked with a good few outsourcing companies in Jakarta and can tell you that these guys are hurting.

Consumer spending boosts Indonesia

Published: August 14 2008 17:01 Indonesia’s economy grew a higher-than-expected 6.39 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of this year, thanks to high commodity prices, strong consumer spending and robust exports. The figures will give a boost to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as he unveils the government’s 2009 budget on Friday. Ministers say this will include a 55 per cent increase in funds for poverty alleviation programmes and a significant expansion of the education budget.

RI`s economy to grow 6 pct this year: analysts

Taipei, (ANTARA News) - Citi Corp analysts predicted Thursday the Indonesian economy will grow 6 percent in 2008 after the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) announced earlier in the day the country`s economy expanded 6.36 percent in the first half of this year. The first-half economic growth rate came as a surprise as it exceeded the economic growth rate forecast of 6.1 percent, the analysts said in a press statement.

According to the Director for Export Development in East Timor at the National Export Development Agency Radu Malem Sembiring, the increase is triggered by the industry exhibition of Decorex at Johanneshburgh in South Africa from July 30 to August 3.
