South Korea makes high technology investment in Indonesia

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Lee Sun-Jin said his country has expanded its investment in Indonesia to high technology industries from labour intensive investment. "In the recent years our country's investment in Indonesia was no longer dominated by labour intensive industries," Lee, flanked by Councellor Yoon Moon-han, told ANTARA at his residence here on Monday.

Government to end port operator`s monopoly despite protest

Jakarta (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - The government and the House of Representatives are set to pass a new maritime bill into law calling for an end to the monopoly of state port operators, despite strong opposition from longshoremen. The bill will end the monopoly enjoyed by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) I, II, III and IV at 112 major ports in the country.

Foreign investors to have access to state exports financing

While deliberations over a bill on state-owned Indonesian Exports Financing Agency (LPEI) are still at an early stage, the government and the House of Representatives have agreed such services will be opened to foreign investors.

Palm oil industry continues to destroy Indonesia's peatland forests

Jakarta - The destruction of Indonesia's peatland forests is continuing unstopped despite the government's pledge to halt it, according to a report by environmental group Greenpeace's issued Monday. Greenpeace claims an unregulated industry and "toothless government rules" are to blame.

Suramadu bridge expected to be completed next year

Indra Harsaputra and Wahyoe Boediwardhana Vice President Jusuf Kalla has called for the Suramadu bridge linking Surabaya and Madura island in East Java to be completed before the start of general elections in April 2009. "With the bridge in operation, campaigns to Madura could easily be conducted," Kalla said in a visit to the project on Sunday.
