Bribes, poor roads hamper supply-chain management
Commercial deliveries are unpredictable because of conflicting local regulations, illegal payments and crumbling road infrastructure, according to a recent survey of domestic trucking costs by the Asia Foundation and the University of Indonesia's Institute for Economic and Social Research (LPEM-FEUI).

Indonesia Tourism and Travel Fair hopes for $10m in deals
A group of tourism and travel industry associations will team up to hold what will be the country's largest tourism and travel exhibition. The exhibition, called the Indonesia Tourism and Travel Fair 2008, is expected to attract 10,000 local visitors and 150 foreign buyers. It is projected to secure a total of US$10 million in business transactions.

Govt wants good quality despite lower mobile phone tariffs
To help retain the service quality of cellular providers, the government will issue guidelines to address problems arising from the recent cut in interconnection tariffs, an official says. Director general for post and telecommunications at the ministry of communications and information Basuki Yusuf Iskandar said Thursday the slashed tariffs had increased the number of customers, leading to troubled connections.

RI among the most optimistic markets in Asia: Survey
Indonesia is the third most optimistic market in Asia after India and China, according to a quarterly investor survey by Dutch financial institution giant ING. Despite global market uncertainty and the impact of U.S. sub-prime crisis during the first quarter of this year, the fast growing markets of India, China and Indonesia have gained the highest level of investor confidence.

RI imports over 90 pct of its pharmaceutical raw material needs
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia still imports over 90 percent of the pharmaceutical raw materials it needs, showing that its dependence on overseas industries is very high, a pharmaceutical traders spokesman said. "And some 70 percent of the imported raw materials come from China," Kendrariadi Suhanda, deputy secretary general of the Indonesian Pharmacies Association (GPFI) told the press on the occasion of `Indo Medica Expo 2008` here on Thursday.
