Indonesia mining sector benefiting from rising metal prices, not expansion

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia's mining sector continued to enjoy record financial results in 2007 mainly due to strong commodity prices rather than expansion in business activities, a survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers howed. "High, and in most cases increasing, commodity prices have continued into 2007, which augurs well for strong financial performance in 2007 and 2008," said Sacha Winzenried, a technical director at PwC.

Indonesian trade surplus seen down in January as exports fall

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia's trade surplus is expected to have shrunk last month as exports fell amid slower demand from major markets like the United States while rising prices of crude oil and other commodities lifted imports, economists said Friday. According to nine economists polled by Thomson Financial, the country's trade surplus probably fell to between 2.52 billion and 3.78 billion dollars in January from 4.06 billion dollars in the previous month.
