Lack of incentives leaves local chocolate industry struggling
If you like dark chocolate which is considered a health food by some people, then the best deal in the country is not in the candy section of the supermarket but in the *cooking* section. There you can buy 2 brands of local, dark, unmixed cooking chocolate. The cheaper brand is named Tulip and it sells for about Rp. 10,000 for a 250 gram bar. That's a large bar. The other brand is slightly more expensive and I forget the name, but it is, to my taste, slightly better.

Trade deficit with China blows out
The trade deficit with China in the non-oil and gas sector skyrocketed by more than 3500 percent from US$35 million in 2006 to $1.28 billion last year, the Central Statistics Agency says. In its latest report, the agency also shows that China emerged as Indonesia's biggest import origin for non-oil and gas products in 2007 with a total imports worth $7.95 billion, beating long-time chart topper Japan with $6.46 billion.

RI`s exports up 19 pct to $113 B
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s exports in 2007 grew by 13.09 percent to US$113.99 billion from a year earlier, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said Friday. Non-oil/non-gas exports grew by 15.51 percent to US$91.94 billion, outstripping the government-set export growth target of 14.5 percent.

New formula to bring mobile phone bills down
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta The government is set to introduce a new tariff formula for the mobile phone industry that will reduce tariffs between operators by 10 to 30 percent, an official said. "The interconnection tariff is expected to be announced on Monday, and implemented on April 1," Indonesian Telecommunications Regulatory Body spokesperson Heru Sutadi told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.
