Kadin challenges company law in court

A number of business groupings have filed for a judicial review on the 2007 Law on Limited Liability Companies with the Constitutional Court, arguing the law contradicts other laws and creates legal uncertainty. The plaintiffs, consisting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), the Indonesian Women's Business Association (Iwapi) and the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (Hipmi), submitted preliminary legal documents to the court on Friday. Batam ports to use new IT system

Yuli Tri Suwarni, The Jakarta Post, Bandung All ports on Batam Island will soon introduce a new information and technology (IT) system in a bid to curb income leaks, an official says. Head of Batam Port Office's Commercial Unit Heri Kafianto said the new system, to be implemented by 2009, would integrate the movements and activities of all ships using the island's 111 ports.

PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, the country’s biggest producer of crude palm oil, on Friday confirmed its readiness to face the global economic downturn. Santosa, the company’s director of finance, said Astra Agro would survive the current CPO market volatility, “even if crude palm oil prices decline as low as $300 per metric ton.” CPO had been as high as $1,321 per ton in March of this year, but then tumbled to a low of $386.36 on Oct. 24.
