Pharma grouping to appeal over drug registration

A grouping of pharmaceutical companies will lobby for a review of a Health Ministry regulation that revokes the right of some of its members to register, and thus sell, drugs they import. The regulation, issued last Monday, applies in particular to PBFs -- a corporate classification set by the ministry's Drug and Food Monitoring Agency (BPOM) for companies that have no production facilities but sell drugs in massive amounts here.

Foreign Investment in Pharmaceuticals Hampered by Regulations

The policy is seen to be affecting future foreign investment in Indonesia. International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group (IPMG) executive-director, Parulian Simanjuntak, said limiting share ownership will restrict foreign investment in the pharmaceutical business in the future.
