Investment in Indonesia’s mining sector is expected to drop by 70 percent next year due to the global recession, according to a mining industry official. Priyo Pribadi Soemarno, executive director of the Indonesian Mining Association, said most mining companies would cut production and spending in 2009, with investment expected to fall by 70 percent.

Indonesia orders energy companies to bank locally

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Oil and gas companies doing business in Indonesia must use local banks for their transactions from December onwards, a move to help the struggling rupiah, an official said Thursday. "The benefit is that our balance of payments will improve," Raden Priyono, chairman of upstream oil and gas regulating body BP Migas, was quoted by AFP asa telling Dow Jones Newswires. Priyono said the new policy could bring in around 11 billion dollars to the country next year.

US, Indonesia Link Up On Forest Carbon Credits

SINGAPORE - California and two other US states signed a pact late on Tuesday with Indonesia's Aceh province that could see forest carbon credits from Aceh accepted into US emissions trading schemes. The pact, the first of its kind, marks a major step in global acceptance of carbon credits derived from projects aimed at halting the destruction of the developing world's remaining forests, which soak up vast amounts of planet-warming carbon dioxide.

Belgian crown prince to visit Indonesia

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Belgian crown prince Philippe will visit Indonesia from November 22 to 26 along with an investment and business delegation, foreign ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah told ANTARA here on Wednesday. He said prince Philippe would meet with a number of high-ranking officials including vice president Jusuf Kalla during the visit.
