House to summon agriculture minister on soybean crisis

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission IV is to summon its working partners in the execuive branch, including the agriculture minister, next week for discussions to solve the current soybean crisis. "We will summon the agriculture minister to find a solution in relation with the soybean price which has been soaring during the past few weeks," House Commission IV Vice Chairman Anwar Sanusi said in a statement carried by the parliament`s website on Wednesday night.

Pertamina to become RI's most profitable firm

Ika Krismantari, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta State oil and gas company PT Pertamina may have booked a staggering Rp 23 trillion (around US$2.5 billion) net profit in 2007, on the back of high crude oil prices and the company's efficiency programs, its president director says. The figure is still an estimate as the official financial report will be formally issued on Jan. 30, when the company is scheduled to hold its annual shareholders' meeting.

Govt to move up start of massive soybean planting drive

Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The government will move up the launching of a massive soybean planting drive to 2010 from 2015 as originally planned to reduce the country`s dependence on imported soybean, a minister said. "There was no way we could control the soybean price in the United States and that`s why the price of the commodity in Indonesia has soared. We can no longer rely too much on imported soybean," Agriculture Minister Anton Apriyantono said on Thursday.

Pertamina to lift investment by 50 percent

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia's state oil and gas firm, Pertamina, aims to lift investment by 50 percent to 21 trillion rupiah ($2.2 billion) this year to boost crude output and upgrade refineries, its president said on Thursday. Indonesia is Asia Pacific's only member of OPEC, but ageing fields and lack of investment has made the country a net crude oil importer since 2006, although it is still a net energy exporter, thanks to a huge supply of natural gas and coal.

Indonesian 2008 car sales expected to rise a fifth
