Indonesia`s Bakrie seeks US$500 mln financing from Daewoo
Jakarta (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - PT Bakrie & Brothers (JSE:BNBR) will ask South Korea's Daewoo Engineering (KSE:047040) to provide US$550 million in vendor financing for the US$1.2 billion Kalimantan-Java gas pipeline project. Bakrie & Brothers has prepared options to issue a bond valued at US$550 million if its attempt to have vendor financing fails, said finance director Yuanita Rohali.

Car industry is recovering, but still has long drive ahead
By all accounts, Indonesia's car industry has recovered from the crash triggered by the second fuel hike of September 2005. GAIKINDO, the national automotive manufacturers association, reported 41,470 units sold in August. If sales continue at that level, the recovery will seemingly be complete. But not quite.

Indonesian govt removes VAT on non-branded cooking oil
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government removed the 10 percent value-added tax on non-branded cooking oil Monday, an official said. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Budiono said the government is hoping the move will help push down the price of cooking oil. Non-branded cooking oil is used mostly by low-income families. The government will also spend 25 billion rupiah on a 2,500-rupiah-per-liter subsidy for non-branded cooking oil, he was quoted by Thomson Financial as saying.

Indonesia to participate in 2010 Shanghai expo
Shanghai (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is expected to participate in the "World Expo 2010 Shanghai" from May 1-31, 2010 in Shanghai, China, in an effort to introduce a number of its technological advances, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said here on Monday. "Indonesia will exhibit its technological advances at the world`s largest trade expo in Shanghai in 2010," Mari said when visiting the location of the expo.

PATA expected to improve RI`s tourism industry
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s preparedness to hold the Pacific Asian Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart 2007 meeting in the resort island of Bali on Sept 26-28 is expected to help improve the country`s tourism industry. "The decline of Indonesian tourism in the last two years due to natural disasters, security problems and the avian flu attack are expected to be gradually halted," Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik said here on Monday.
