More tourists head to Bali

Posted Thu Aug 2, 2007 11:36am AEST New figures released by Indonesia's Statistics Bureau show that a big jump in the number of tourists visiting the resort island of Bali is leading a revival in tourism for the whole country. The bureau says Bali saw an increase of more than a third during the first six months of the year with almost 800,000 tourists entering Bali by air. Tourism numbers for Jakarta fell slightly but overall the country saw an increase of more than 12 per cent.

Temasek not running monopoly: Study

Debunking an allegation currently being investigated by the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU), a new study concludes that Singapore's Temasek Holdings does not have a monopoly over Indonesia's mobile telecoms market.

Batam (ANTARA News) - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi said no island in Indonesia was owned by foreigners although a number were under foreign management. "They only cooperate with us in developing the islands` economic potentials. None of our islands is onwed by foreigners," the minister said on the sidelines of a working meeting here on Thursday.
