Govt urged to prioritize foreign investment in hitech projects

Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - General chairman of the Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) Chamber of Commerce and Industry H Firmandez said foreign investment should be prioritized for high technology and capital intensive projects. He made the remarks here on Wednesday relating to the weaknesses of local investors in realizing hitech and capital intensive projects.

Bali to commence thermal power plant development

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Bali province is expected to begin the development of a 400-MW thermal power plant (PLTU) around Celukan Bawang port, Beleleng district, in an effort to anticipate power crisis in the tourist resort island. "The thermal power plant is expected to commence operation in stages in 2008," Public Relations Coordinator of state-owned electricity company PLN, Hendra Saleh said here on Thursday.

Lippo Karawaci to build more hospitals

Publicly listed property company PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk will expand its healthcare business by renovating two of its international-standard Siloam Hospitals, and building five new ones at a total cost of US$500 million. President director Viven G. Sitiabudi said Tuesday that the company would open four more hospitals in Jakarta and another one in Bandung over the next five to 10 years.

Foreign investment options shrink

The government reaffirmed its commitment Wednesday to protecting local business by expanding the list of business fields closed to foreign investment. "The new negative investment list will be longer and more detailed," Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu told reporters in Jakarta, referring to the list of business fields that are off-limits to foreign investors. Mari said that protection was necessary to support local businesses and was in line with the national interest.
