Ministry mulls legal action against party intending to sell islands

Depok, West Java (ANTARA News) - Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono said his ministry was considering to take legal action against the party that had put out an advertisement offering to sell two Indonesian islands in West Nusa Tenggara province. "The advertisement (which appeared in an internet website recently) is false and illegal" and therefore had to be investigated and acted against, he said.

Emaar pledges to attract tourists from Middle East to Indonesia

Jakarta (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - Emaar International Properties LLC from Dubai pledged to draw more Middle-east tourists to Indonesia after it completes a tourist resort project in Bali's neighboring island of Lombok. The project, expected to cost around US$600 million, will be built over a 12-hectare plot of land on the Mandalika beach of Central Lombok, and is to be completed in 2009.

Temasek raises stake in Bank Internasional Indonesia

Singapore (ANTARA News) - State-linked investment firm Temasek Holdings said Tuesday it has raised its stake in Indonesia's sixth largest bank, PT Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII), as a result of its increased stake in Sorak Financial Holdings Pte Ltd. Temasek has lifted its stake in Sorak, which owns slightly more than 56 percent of BII, to 75 percent from 50 percent.

Indonesia has 27,000 MW of potential geothermal energy sources

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has potential geothermal energy sources of 27,000 MegaWatt (MW) or 40 percent of the world`s total reserves, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said here on Tuesday.

RI`s rice price 30 pct higher than other countries`

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s rice price is 30 percent higher than the world market price making it uncompetitive in international trading, State Logistics Agency (Bulog) Chief Mustafa Abubakar said. "It will be difficult for us to export rice. Therefore, Indonesia`s rice price should be lowered to a level close to the international price," Mustafa said here Tuesday. Currently, the world rice price ranged between Rp3,000 and Rp3,500 per kg.

President asks private sector to develop biofuel

Nusa Dua (ANTARA News) - President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Tuesday appealed to the private sector to increase its role in developing biofuel which is environment-friendly and more economical than fossil fuel. The president made the appeal when visiting a Sugar Group Companies (SGC) pavilion in a Cool Energy Exhibition held on the occasion of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on Tuesday. "I hope it will be developed further," he said.
