Telecommunication Sector Dominates Ad Expenditures in 2006

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Ad expenditures in 2006 on national electronic and print media were dominated by telecommunication products. Nielsen Media Research has it that ad expenditures of the products increased from Rp1.393 trillion in 2005 to Rp1.976 trillion in 2006 or a growth of 42 percent. Executive Director of Nielsen Media Research Ananto Pratikno said that the rise was considered the highest growth among the top 10 product categories that advertised in all the media.

Japan Explores Building Bio-ethanol Factory

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Kanematsu Corporation, a company from Japan, plans to build a bio-ethanol factory in Indonesia. It is estimated that the factory with 100,000 liters per day capacity will be an investment of around US$25 million. Industry Minister Fahmi Idris said Kanematsu is interested in developing bio-energy based on cassava in Indonesia. “They’re interested and will explore some areas,” he said yesterday (18/1).

18 Infrastructure Policies Canceled

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government has canceled 18 policies in the infrastructure package. The cancellation was part of revisions to the policy package that was launched in February 2006 and will continue this year. According to Coordinating Minister For the Economy Boediono, the government has considered that the 18 policies are irrelevant.

Minister dubbed state officials as cowards

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State Minister for Administrative Reforms Taufik Effendi labelled as cowards state officials who often abdicated responsibility and left it to the central government when they faced problems. "I never heard state officials acknowledging their mistakes. As if they are innocent. They are cowards," the minister said with a shrill voice when delivering a keynote address at a seminar on state administrative system in the post-Constitution amendment.

Indonesia, Qatar to set up joint investment fund

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia and Qatar are planning to set up a joint investment fund for equity sharing for which Indonesia will gain 15 percent of capital, while the remaining 85 percent will go to Qatar. "This investment fund aims to support the building of infrastructure projects in Indonesia," Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said after a limited meeting at the vice presidential office here on Thursday.

Indonesia's 2006 ads expenditure up 17 pct to Rp30 trln

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Corporate expenditure on advertising in 2006 rose 17 pct to 30 trln rupiah, Nielsen Media Research said. It noted that TV absorbed 20 trln rupiah, or 67 pct, of the total spending, with the remainder shared by newspapers, magazines, radio and online media. Ananto Praktikno, executive director of Nielsen Media Research Indonesia, said he expects corporate spending on advertising to increase this year in line with the improving economy. (*)
