Sofyan: Open Source Hampers Government's Activity
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Information and Communication Minister Sofyan Djalil said that the use of open source as software on state-owned computers is yet to be implemented today. The reason is that it may halt government's activities. Sofyan explained that there were three reasons. First, the government must upgrade its computers' performance before using open source. Second, the quality of human resources in the government's office is still low.

Market Disappointed at State Gas Company

According to the State Employment Agency (BKN) Head, Prapto Hadi, there are currently 367,000 civil servant documents which have problems and are fictitious. Women growing segment of motorcycle market
More bad news for the macho male Indonesian. Of the 35 million motorcycle riders around the country, almost one in four are women. And that figure will continue to grow in the coming years. As recently as two years ago, motorcycle manufacturers refused to recognize women as potential customers, probably because all the "evidence", like ownership papers, was in the name of males in this male-dominated society.

PGN suspended from trading - JSX
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) has suspended PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) from trading to allow investors to get more information about the delayed operation of the firm's gas pipeline, JSX president Erry Firmansyah said. "We also plan to summon PGN's management so we can get more information about this," Firmansyah told XFN Asia.

Arrival of imported sugar may be late
Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA News) - The arrival of imported sugar scheduled in the middle of this month was expected to be slightly late due to the drastically-changing weather in the past two weeks, Associate Corporate Secretary of state plantation company PT Perkebunan Nusantara XI, Adig Suwandi, said. The late arrival of the imported sugar would not affect the existing sugar stock at home, Suwandi said here Monday.

Exports of built-up cars increase by 70%
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s exports of completely built-up (CBU) cars in 2006 increased by 70 percent to 30 thousand units from 17 thousand units in 2005, Director General for Telematics and Transportation Equipment Industries, Budi Darmadi, said here on Monday. He said that the increase in the car exports was a consequence of the drastic drop in the domestic market by about 40.9 percent as the result of the fuel oil price hike in October 2005.

BI Calls on Banks to Take Risks
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Bank Indonesia (BI) has called on banks to dare to take risks in disbursing loans to non-consumer sectors. So far, banks have tended to disburse loans to consumer sectors because they are considered as having minimum risks. The central bank said it considered that the decreasing rate of the non performing loans (NPL) ratio should make banks more confident in disbursing loans to high risk sectors such as the industrial and corporate sectors.

Electricity Project Hoping for Funds from UN
TEMPO Interactive, Denpasar: A garbage-powered electricity generating plant project that is being built in Denpasar is hoping for funds from Clean Development Management of the United Nations. “The project helps reducing poisonous gas emitions which is in line with the mission of the institution,” said Made Sudharma, Head of the Garbage and Sanitation Supervisory Agency of Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar and Tabanan, yesterday (01/14).
