Yet, in a city with a population of over 12 million by day and close to 10 million by night, set in the middle of an urbanized region of about 25 million, most people still rely on private vehicles to get around.

"They want to take the best, they want to cherry pick," trade minister Mari Pangestu said at a seminar in Singapore Saturday. Indonesia and Japan began talks in 2005 to develop a bilateral agreement with initiatives to bolster both trade and investment.
